Rona Grey Cup 2007
Publi-AirCanada recently created and installed a giant inflatable stadium for the 2007 Grey Cup in Toronto. The Grey Cup organizing committee wanted to provide an interactive football experience for the legions of fans that would be showing up for this enormous event. They were looking for something that would be inviting to a range of ages, and allow various CFL stars to interact and connect with them as they arrived.
Building the Unit
At Publi-Air, our production designers proposed a number of large inflatable solutions with their goal in mind, and in the end the chosen product was an inflatable stadium.Through consultation with the organizing committee, our design team, and Publi-Air engineers, the design evolved over time from the 3-D computer concept model to the final product.
The assembly of the unit took place in the largest section of the production. After it was completed, it was set up outside for as dry-run of the final installation. With a team of 7, this massive inflatable stadium was unpacked and inflated in under a hour and a bit longer for the final adjustments (attaching banners and sandbags).
Final Installation
The final installation of the stadium took place across from the Rogers Centre and CN tower.Working through freezing rain, our team set the unit up, tested it to their satisfaction, and declared it ready for the crowds to arrive- and arrive they did.Hundreds of fans braved the cold weather to throw footballs at practice units, practice their field goal kicks, and play catch with some of their favorite CFL stars.
